The Department of Education and Skills is actively considering a proposal from Health and Safety officers not to reopen schools after the summer holidays.
Sources say Education Minister Mary Coughlan approves of the plan to discontinue education on budgetary and health grounds.
“The Department of Education’s mission to provide an equal education for all has been hugely successful,” a source said. “The standard of education available is now equally poor in all parts of the country.”
“Our schools now consistently operate as centres of disease, hooliganism and illiteracy,” he added. “We firmly believe they can continue to do so without the support of teachers. This should result in a considerable saving for the economy.”
