Experts believe Cowen may have caught Tourette’s off Coughlan

July 12, 2010

Experts in Tourette’s syndrome now believe the condition might be contagious and that Taoiseach Brian Cowen caught it from Education Minister Mary Coughlan.

Last year, an expert on Tourette’s  told The Mire that Tanaiste Mary Coughlan could be suffering  from coprolalia and might not be able to help making a complete tit of herself on occasion.

Coprolalia,  a symptom of Tourette’s, is involuntary swearing or the utterance of obscene words or socially inappropriate and derogatory remarks.

Last week the Taoiseach called Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny a fool and in 2008, he used the word ‘fuckers’ in the Dail. Green Party TD Paul Gogarty, who used the word ‘fuck’ in the Dáil may also have coprolalia.

However, an Irish doctor has said Mr Cowen is definitely not suffering from coprolalia.

“Outbursts from sufferers of coprolalia don’t reflect the person’s true opinion,” he said. “In this case it is clear that the Taoiseach thinks everyone’s a fucker and Enda Kenny’s a fool.
