Flooded communities angry over Taoiseach throwing water balloons

November 23, 2009

Members of flooded communities in the south and west have complained that it was “completely inappropriate” of Taoiseach Brian Cowen to throw water balloons at them this morning. Mr Cowen cancelled all appointments today to visit flood areas in Galway, Clare, Tipperary and Cork. “We thought he would at least be sympathetic,” a woman whose house was flooded said, “but he just keeps laughing and singing ‘Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head’.”

“This is completely inappropriate,” a man whose business premises is under three feet of water said. “All he has done is jump in puddles, splash pensioners and throw water balloons.”

A spokesman for the Taoiseach said no offence was intended. “Mr Cowen was just trying to lighten the mood,” he said. “And if the truth be told he’s still a bit upset about JEdward being voted off the X Factor.”
