Journalists who offend Phil Hogan might not be allowed to live in his constituency after he branded them “knackers”.
Last September the Environment Minister rejected accusations of racism over a letter he wrote to constituents saying that a Traveller family would not move into their area.
Yesterday,it was reported that Mr Hogan called Sunday Independent journalists “knackers” for printing a photograph of him and his press secretary in Doha.
Knacker is a derogatory/pejorative term for Travellers.
“This is unusual for Phil Hogan,” an observer said. “He’s usually quite reticent and very cerebral.”
“He must really have it in for the Travellers though if he’s comparing them to journalists.”
