Embarrassed officials at the Department of Finance have admitted to The Mire that they have mislaid the Irish economy.
The shocking news comes after the State’s credit rating was downgraded by international ratings agency Standard & Poors.
“We know it’s around here somewhere,” a source said as he scoured the carpet in Finance Minister Brian Lenihan’s office.
“Efforts to locate the economy have been hampered by the fact that it has not been visible to the naked eye for two years,” a leading economist said.
