Study cannot distinguish between high achievers and heroin addicts
A study designed to identify the characteristics of high achieving leaving certificate students by contrasting them with early school leavers addicted to heroin has not been able to distinguish between the two groups.
“All of their responses, all of their characteristics, all of their mannerisms are identical,” a researcher said. “It is hopeless.”
“We have had to abandon the project as we don’t know which group is which.”
“It is not immediately clear whether this is because of the poor quality of the education available to students or the poor quality of heroin available to addicts,” the researcher added. “Either way it is a disgrace.”
