President Nicolas Sarkozy of France has offered to appear on tonight’s Late Late Show with Taoiseach Brian Cowen in an effort to boost support for the Lisbon referendum after attempts to get Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny to campaign for a no vote failed.

A Fine Gael source has revealed that the party’s opposition to the National Asset Management Agency (NAMA) is not about NAMA and is in fact part of an ongoing “hissy fit” by party leader Enda Kenny over the fact that party strategists want him to campaign for a No Vote in the Lisbon referendum.

After all the gloom, Mireland finally sees a light at the end of the tunnel. French President Nicolas Sarkozy has said he is prepared to take over the running of Anglo Irish Bank and to head NAMA. Mr Sarkozy said there would be no conflict of interest in his holding both roles.
