Zombie hotels to house our highly qualified uneducated people

Binge education was as big a factor of the Celtic Tiger years as binge drinking and binge banking, according to an unpublished study on university grade inflation.

“They were heady days,” an academic said. “You only had to walk past a university to get a degree. Sure we were throwing PhDs out the windows to the crowds below.”

Indeed, the study found that homeless people sheltering near Trinity College in Dublin were awarded PhDs during the boom.

Dealing with the country’s many highly qualified utterly uneducated people is also the focus of another report by engineers who predict a population of 8 million people – many of whom will be useless – by the 2030s.

The report Pipedreams of infrastructure for an Island Population of Eight Million imagines a scenario in which the Government plans ahead.

Fortunately, accommodation for the extra three million people is already in place in the form of ghost estates and zombie hotels.

“This is due in no small part to the foresight shown by the government in creating the conditions for ghost estates and zombie hotels to flourish,” a government spokesman said.
