An Unconventional Marketplace: Chennai’s Second Vegan Festival Celebrating Cruelty-Free And Sustainable Lifestyle
It is no secret that every winter the world heads south. And that’s exactly what we too are doing this time. In a few days, The Eco Trunk will be pitching its camp at The Winter Folly Market in Chennai!
That’s Right Chennai, We Are Coming To You!
The Folly Initiative was started recently by a passionate group of social entrepreneurs who fell in love with all that is local, eco, organic and vegan. This Market is Chennai’s first completely vegan and sustainable market, and this would be the second time the market comes alive. We were a part of the first one in August 2017 and absolutely loved it. The market is a haven for Vegans and for anyone who enjoys the touch, taste and feel of all that’s organic and chemical and cruelty free.
“From what we’ve seen so far, it is the youth everywhere that is responding to the idea of responsible living and Chennai is affirming the same. Our reason for participating is to support and promote a lifestyle that is cruelty free, sustainable and eco-friendly. And it feels special that we can be a part of Chennai’s growth story, as we reach out to more and more people about this wonderful lifestyle and its benefits” Monica Chopra, Founder, The Eco Trunk.
We were also thrilled to see the event and The Eco Trunk covered by media extensively, giving it the exposure it deserved and encouraging a new wave of thought towards sustainability and a cruelty free lifestyle.
But there’s only so much we can say with words. And what escape it are the conversations, exchange of ideas and sparks of inspiration that trigger unexpectedly. And it’s actually nice to be visiting Chennai. A lot of the traditional South Indian cuisine is Vegan and it has been so for the longest time. Ask any vegan and they’ll tell you how South-Indian food is a delicious rescue for them almost any day.
When we asked one of the organisers of the event, Shivani Patel, co-founder of Arture about the concept of the festival she said, “The name Folly came about because we wanted it to be a fun and interactive space – not your traditional marketplace. We wanted it to be a space where ideas are exchanged and good vibes are spread. We name it seasonally – The Fall Folly, Winter Folly, Spring Folly and Summer Folly. :).”
Not a market, this is a gathering of people driven to make the world a better place to live, for all of its inhabitants. So if you are in or around Chennai on the 21st of January, let’s meet up! This is much to look forward to!
